I've just come across your excellent site having decided to try the 'Clode'
spelling on the internet. I'm from Sidmouth in Devon and my name is spelt
'Cload'. My family are from Totnes in Devon and I think I have traced them
back to around 1570 when an ancestor called Myles Cloade had a number of
offspring's all with different spellings for their surnames:- CLOD, CLODE,
CLOAD and CLOADE.
As you know there are a lot of Cload's/Clode's in the Westcountry and I am
trying to associate them into one family. I also know of many Cload's in
New Zealand, USA, Canada, but they may not all be from my line.
I thought I would let you know but I am sure you are already aware of the
various spellings for our name.
