The hamlet of Brookville started life as "The Colony", a workers cooperative formed in the late 1880's to produce fresh fruit and vegetables to be marketed in London.
The site was set upon land 1 mile to the north of Methwold on fertile land adjacent to a brook which flows into the nearby river Wissey. The local store, pub and post office have closed in recent years. The village is now mainly residential located within Methwold Parish in west Norfolk. The nearest town is Downham Market
which is 8 miles to the north west. Swaffham is around 10 miles to the north east and Brandon Suffolk about 9 miles to the south.
Thetford Forest lies to the South of Brookville. At 20,000 hectares it is the largest man-made lowland forest in the country. Brookville is bordered by Norfolk fenland is to the West. The area is mainly agricultural with cereal and sugarbeet being the main crops.
